In 'The Real World', Fish and Cage hire a new lawyer, Nelle Porter, to whom Ally (Calista Flockhart) takes an instant dislike. 'They Eat Horses, Don't They?' sees animal-friendly Cage having qualms when he agrees to defend a restauranteur who serves horsemeat to his customers. In 'Fool's Night Out', Ally attempts to mediate between a minister and a jilted member of his choir. 'It's My Party' sees Elaine poaching Ally's new client, sacked magazine editor George, while in 'Story of Love', it is Ally to whom George turns when he wants help setting up his own publication. 'Worlds without Love' finds Renee contemplating an affair with an old flame who is now married, and in 'Happy Trails', the firm members mourn the passing of Judge Happy Boyle. 'Just Looking' sees Cage and Fish choosing to go undercover when a group of mothers against pornography try to shut down Ling's all-woman, mud-wrestling club. In 'You Never Can Tell', Ally has a disastrous blind date, while Cage and Nelle's first evening out together does not go much better. 'Making Spirits Bright' sees Fish throwing his Christmas party and Ally attempting to help Cage woo Nell, and 'In Dreams' finds Ally going to the courts herself to get her beloved former teacher induced into a coma.
