World War 2 espionage thriller based on the real-life memoirs of L.C. 'Cicero' Moyzisch. James Mason stars as the anti-hero protagonist, a man known to his superiors only by the code-name Cicero. Outwardly the efficient and discreet valet of the British Ambassador to Ankara in Turkey, he is in fact acting as a ruthless spy, photographing top-secret documents detailing plans for the D-Day invasion and selling them to the highest bidder - which just happens to be the Nazi government. Along the way he falls in love with - and is double-crossed by - a beautiful refugee Countess, Anna Staviska (Danielle Darrieux).
