Quirky romantic comedy directed by 'Northern Exposure' co-creator Joshua Brand. John Leguizamo stars as Sergio, a baker's assistant to cash-strapped Mr Linzer (Armin Mueller-Stahl), who decides he wants to burn the bakery down so that he can claim the insurance money. He offers Sergio $20 000 to torch the store, but Sergio refuses. However, the store later gets burned down, and it transpires that the true culprit is unhinged pyromaniac Garet (William Baldwin), who started the fire to publicly declare his love for Stephanie (Erika Eleniak). Though innocent, Sergio claims responsibility for the crime so that he can use the money to get his girl, Hattie (Sadie Frost) - but the kindly Mr Linzer immediately confesses to the crime to cover for Sergio. When Linzer's wife (Joan Plowright) then steps in to claim responsibility to protect her husband, local constable Sgt Zikowski (Mike Starr) finds himself with four confessions on record, each more unlikely than the last.
