Aligarh Film Poster

Biographic drama directed by Hansal Mehta and based on the real life events of Dr. Shrinivas Ramchandra Siras, played by Manoj Bajpayee. The story follows Dr. Siras, a professor nearing retirement at Aligarh Muslim University in Uttar Pradesh, who is filmed engaging in a sexual act with another man in a calculated 'sting attack'. Subsequently suspended from his role by the university, reclusive Siras launches an appeal against his employer, in what was to become one of India's most high-profile gay rights cases. Journalist Deepu Sebastian (Rajkummar Rao) spends time with the professor forming a close friendship and tells his story to the world, questioning attitudes to homosexuality in modern-day India.
