Billy Bob Thornton directs this adaptation of Cormac McCarthy's acclaimed novel. After the sale of the ranch where he grew up, John Grady Cole (Matt Damon) decides to head for Mexico with his friend Lacey Rawlins (Henry Thomas). Soon after crossing the Rio Grande the pair become involved in an incident involving a stolen horse, a gun, a young cowboy named Blevins (Lucas Black), and some angry locals. John Grady and Rawlins escape and find work on a Mexican ranch, where John Grady falls in love with the ranch owner's daughter (Penelope Cruz), and also finds favour due to his skill in working with horses. However, it's not long before the incident with Blevins returns to remind them that they are still very much strangers in a foreign country.
