Synopsis

Documentary that traces the history of rigid airships. One of the pioneers of rigid airships was Count Ferdinand von Zeppelin, who founded the Zeppelin Airship company. Zeppelin airships were used in both a military and civilian capacity, though the high-profile Hindenburg disaster of 1937 - in which 36 passengers were killed when an airship caught fire - led many to reconsider whether airships were a viable transport option. Nonetheless, rigid airships were to prove an important phase in the development of air travel.
