Moody gangster drama directed and written by Edward Burns, who also stars as Francis Sullivan, who has transformed from a tough street kid to a sensitive, law-abiding man in the three years since his younger brother, Sean (Elijah Wood) was killed on Ash Wednesday in 1983 - while trying to protect Francis from gangsters who wanted to kill him. Sean's wife, Grace (Rosario Dawson) is a widow trying to get on with her life - and growing increasingly drawn to her deceased husband's elder brother. But when rumours begin that Sean is back in town, and that his death was just an elaborate ruse intended to shake off the rival gangsters, trouble begins to brew...
