A loose adaptation of Shakespeare's 'Romeo and Juliet', set amongst fisherfolk, and filmed in Cinemascope. Father and son, Mike (Gilbert Roland) and Tony (Robert Wagner) Petrakis are coral-sponge divers whose business comes under threat when the Rhys family of fishermen muscle in on their territory. Run-ins between the two families lead to violence and an unexpected romance. When Tony meets Gwyneth Rhys (Terry Moore), he is immediately smitten. The stage is set for a tale of rivalry and heartache. Will it end in tragedy for the two young lovers? The film garnered a great deal of acclaim on its release for its break-through underwater photography.
