Synopsis

An example of Czech 'New Wave' Cinema, Jiri Menzel's film is set during the German occupation of Czechoslovakia, but is primarily concerned with an apprentice train guard's attempts to lose his virginity while on duty at a rural railway depot. Winner of the Best Foreign Film Oscar of 1966.
