Lonely wife Sally Hyde (Jane Fonda) misses her soldier husband Bob (Bruce Dern), who is currently away serving in the Vietnam War, and decides to occupy herself by doing voluntary work at the local military hospital. There she meets Luke (Jon Voight), a young soldier who has recently returned from the war paralysed from the waist down. Sally and Luke fall in love, and she begins to take on his anti-war sentiments. When Bob returns home, himself also injured, his conflict with the lovers centres not just on Sally's infidelity but on the rights and wrongs of the US involvement in Vietnam. Nominated for eight Oscars including Best Picture, 'Coming Home' won statuettes for Best Screenplay, Best Actor (Voight) and Best Actress (Fonda).
