Synopsis

Anecdotal Australian period comedy set in the early 1900s. Joseph Rudd (Leo McKern) and his family move to a rural 'selection' (small farm) in remote Queensland. Barren and desolate, the land yields only a meagre harvest despite the family's relentless toil, and the depressed market doesn't do much to improve their fortunes. But despite their constant hard work and few rewards - not to mention the lousy weather, nasty neighbours, marsupials, reptiles, insects and other vermin - the family remains a cheerful, lively bunch, and manages to stay together through thick and thin.

Contains mild language and slapstick violence
