Triple-bill of disaster movie adventures. In 'Dante's Peak' (1997), four years after the death of his fiancée in a volcanic eruption, vulcanologist Harry Dalton (Pierce Brosnan) is sent to investigate minor tremors in the town of Dante's Peak. He is attracted to the town's mayor, Rachel Wando (Linda Hamilton), meeting her family and staying to help celebrate the town's Founder's Day. Although Dalton discovers two corpses while visiting the hot springs in the wood, his seismic equipment does not indicate that anything is wrong. Only when he discovers that the town's water supply is contaminated with sulphur does he realise that a lethal volcanic eruption is on the way. In 'Twister' (1996), Jo Harding (Helen Hunt) leads a team of scientists who are set to launch a contraption that can retrieve information from the eye of tornadoes. Bill (Bill Paxton), the inventor of the machine and Jo's ex-husband, arrives with his new fiancée Melissa just as a major storm is about to hit the area. Unable to resist the call of the wind, Bill rejoins his team in a dangerous chase after the mother of all tornadoes: the F5. Finally, in 'Deep Impact' (1998), a year after a comet is discovered by 14-year-old amateur astronomer Leo Biederman (Elijah Wood), it is announced that the object's trajectory is leading it on a collision course with Earth. American President Tom Beck (Morgan Freeman) calls for calm while experienced astronaut Spurgeon Tanner (Robert Duvall) heads into space in an attempt to destroy the comet before it hits. The mission is covered on television by reporter Jenny Lerner (Téa Leoni), who discovers that astronomer Marcus Wolf knew the comet was a threat a year earlier, but died in mysterious circumstances before he could make his findings known.
