Biographical documentary about former French President Charles de Gaulle. Born in Lille in November 1890, de Gaulle was educated in Paris and later joined the military, fighting in both World Wars and rising in the ranks to Brigadier General. He became a prominent figure in France, serving as Minister of Defence, Prime Minister and leader of the Free French Forces before becoming President in 1959. His government became heavily criticised, however, and in May 1968 the French people challenged his power by holding demonstrations and going on strike. De Gaulle resigned in 1969 and died the following year shortly before his 80th birthday.
