Tony Krawitz directs this drama based on the novel by Christos Tsiolkas. The film follows young Australian photographer Isaac (Ewen Leslie), who decides to journey to Greece to return his father's ashes to his homeland. Part of the journey's attraction is that Isaac will have a chance to explore his family history a little, however he has not bargained for the fact that Europe's violent and troubled past may have touched his father's life. As Isaac becomes increasingly aware of an uncomfortable ancestral tale he journeys into the darker underbelly of the continent, where he meets the troubled refugee, Josef (Kodi Smit-McPhee), and his estranged brother, Nico (Marton Csokas). Will Isaac be able to disentangle himself from the weight of European history before it consumes him?
