Bollywood prison drama set against the backdrop of the Indo-Pakistan war of 1971. Largely inspired by rumours that there are still 54 soldiers being held as prisoners of war from the 1971 war, the film concentrates on the lives and loves of these captured men and their final struggle to freedom. When Gaurav (Akshaye Khanna), the son of one of the prisoners Ranvir Kaul (Amitabh Bachchan) travels to Pakistan in the hope of rescuing his father, he finds help - and love - in the unlikeliest of places.
