Synopsis

True story of the court case of Cincinnati art museum director Dennis Barrie (James Woods) after he put on a controversial art exhibition by photographer Robert Mapplethorpe. The County Sheriff (Craig T. Nelson) is determined to put Barrie in jail, and relies on the grand jury to determine whether the pictures, some featuring gay anal sex and others nude children, on display were sexually explicit. Barrie is now in danger of losing both his job and his wife, if found guilty. The impending result causes his wife to divorce him, and his children to be teased and bullied at school.
