Synopsis

Made-for-TV drama based on the life of Florence Nightingale. The story of Nightingale, who abandoned a life of aristocratic comfort to tend to wounded soldiers in the Crimean War, has captured the imagination of a number of generations and has led to the nurse earning the sobriquet 'The Lady of the Lamp'. This biopic follows Nightingale (Jaclyn Smith) as she begins to turn away from the life of privilege celebrated by her parents and embodied by her suitor, Richard Milnes (Timothy Dalton), as news of the dreadful injuries and conditions of the Crimean War filter back to Britain. Eventually, Florence sets out for the war with a team of nurses she has trained and nurtured to offer comfort to those in need.
