Synopsis

Allison Anders' directorial debut is a mother/daughter drama set in a New Mexico trailer park. While Nora Evans (Brooke Adams) works hard as a waitress to support her daughters on her own, her eldest (Ione Skye) defiantly sleeps around. The younger daughter (Fairuza Balk), meanwhile, dreams her life away at the local Spanish-language movie palace, losing herself in its romantic melodramas. She is shaken back to the real world by the cute Mexican projectionist (Jacob Vargas), while her sister and mother also develop relationships that add another dimension to their lives.
