Double bill of action anime features 'Gunbuster' and 'Die Buster' (aka 'Gunbuster 2') condensed into a single theatrical release and told in two parts with a musical intermission between them. The first part, 'Gunbuster - the Movie' (1988), condenses the six episodes of the original Gunbuster OVA into a 95-minute feature. The directorial debut of Hideaki Anno, it combines pretty girls, giant robots and space monsters to produce an interstellar naval war epic. It is 2015 and Earth's first faster-than-light ship - the Luxion - has been lost, attacked by unidentified space monsters in the Perseus Arm. Six years later, Noriko Takaya, daughter of the Luxion's commander, enters the Okinawa Girls' Space Pilot High School, vowing to be a space pilot and follow her father's trail to the stars. 'Die Buster - the Movie' (2006) mixes large chunks of the second OVA series with some altered or newly-animated scenes to create a truncated version of the story in which Nono, a space pilot wannabe from a lonely snowbound village, joins the elite teenage pilot group called Topless in order to defend the Sol System.
