Both animated features based on the critically acclaimed anime series set in a future world where humans have been forced to live in underground villages by an evil ruler. In 'Gurren Lagann: Childhood's End' (2008), friends Simon (voice of Tetsuya Kakihara) and Kamina (Katsuyuki Konishi) are part of a gang called Team Gurren, who are attempting to reach the surface of the Earth. When a gunman begins to attack their village, the two boys meet a girl from above named Yoko (Marina Inoue), and the trio join forces to fight their way to the world overhead. Earth is full of enemy gunmen, however, and defeating them proves to be a very dangerous mission. In 'Gurren Lagann: The Lights in the Sky Are Stars' (2009), seven years have passed since the battle of Teppelin and humanity has reinhabited the surface of the world. But as the human population grows exponentially with this newfound peace, a mysterious and terrible enemy emerges. The heroes of Team Dai-Gurren must reunite and fight once again. The collection also includes 'Gurren Lagann: Parallel Works' (2008), an anthology of animated shorts involving the characters of Gurren Lagann.
