Judy Garland, in her final film role, plays a well-known singer who tops the bill at the London Palladium. In spite of her success onstage, Jenny Bowman (Garland) is engaged in a bitter struggle to win custody of her son Matt (Gregory Phillips) from her estranged husband David (Dirk Bogarde). While David is away in Rome Jenny is given the chance to spend some quality time with her son and sets out to win his affection.
