Director Tony Richardson's adaptation of Henry Fielding's novel about the romantic adventures of a young footman in 18th century society. Raised by Parson Adams (Michael Hordern), good looking young servant Joseph Andrews (Peter Firth) soon comes to the attention of Lady Booby (Ann-Margret), wife of the local squire. Employing him as their footman, she takes him on a trip to Bath, at the time the height of fashionable society, in the hope of seducing him. But when her advances are rebuffed she fires the boy, leaving him to make his own way home, causing him to fall prey to a number of amorous escapades.
