Director Robert Dornhelm brings this big-budget version of Pucchini's opera to the screen, with soprano Anna Netrebko and tenor Rolando Villazon in the lead roles. Rodolfo, Marcello, Colline and Schaunard are four young artists who live a poverty-stricken life together in a Parisian garret. On Christmas eve they decide to celebrate at their favourite pub, the Cafe Momus. When Rodolpho (Rolando Villazon) decides to stay behind, he meets neighbour Mimi (Anna Netrebko), and quickly falls in love. But the couple's happiness is short-lived when they both discover that Mimi has contracted a fatal illness.
