La Tete Contre Les Murs Film Poster

Classic French film drama in which director Georges Franju presents an intensive examination of the contrasting medical ethics of postwar psychiatric care. Francois Gerane (Jean-Pierre Mocky) is a heedless, troublesome young man whose father has him committed to a psychiatric ward where the two doctors in charge are in the midst of a power struggle, due to their opposing medical beliefs. Francois finds himself struggling to keep his sanity and dignity intact under the charge of the cold traditionalist Dr. Varmont (Pierre Brasseur). His only hope is Dr Emery (Paul Meurisse), whose techniques are more humane.
