Introduction to the horror/exploitation sub-genre. In 'Sacred Flesh' (2000), a medieval nun is caught in the struggle between her religious vocation and her repressed sexuality. As her abstinence drives her towards madness, she is touched by a terrifying vision of death and also imagines the figure of Mary Magdalen, who challenges her preconceptions about sex as an evil force. Then, as she broods over her fate, the nun's mind is flooded with violent sexual imagery and she gradually make her way towards the brink of self-destruction. In 'Justine' (1977), based on the novel by the Marquis de Sade, Justine (Koo Stark) seeks a life of virtue and purity, but is constantly embattled by torment and rape. Her sister Juliette, on the other hand, dedicates her life to the pleasures of the flesh and finds only happiness. Finally, in Italian erotic horror 'The Sinful Nuns of St Valentine' (1974), depraved abbess Sister Incarnation (Francoise Prevost) instigates a rule of terror over an abbey during the period of the Inquisition.
