Geoffrey Wright directs this contemporary retelling of Shakespeare's 'Scottish play' set in the ganglands of Melbourne. In Wright's version, Macbeth (Sam Worthington) is portrayed as a drug baron and pimp and Lady Macbeth (Victoria Hill) as a Valium-addicted, narcoleptic burnout and arch-manipulator, while Duncan (Gary Sweet) is a gangland boss in Melbourne's criminal underground. Macbeth and Lady Macbeth murder Duncan in cold blood, framing the servants as responsible - but soon after Macbeth takes the throne, he is undone - and beheaded - by usurper Macduff (Lachy Hulme).

Contains strong bloody violence, strong sex and hard drug use
