Ever since birth, Maya the bumblebee has always been different to all the other bees in her hive. Curious, opinionated and easily bored, she likes to do things her own way and hates rules and regulations. One of the main rules she has always been taught is not to trust the hornets, which live beyond the meadow. When the hive’s precious Royal Jelly is stolen, the finger of blame is pointed towards the hornets and to make matters worse, mischievous Maya is believed to be a suspect. With only her best friend Willy on her side, the residents of the hive turn against Maya and she must go on the run, embarking on a dangerous adventure to uncover the real culprit behind the theft. Maya the Bee is a much-loved German character who first appeared in a popular series of books over 100 years ago in 1912. Since then, she has been the star of several popular cartoon series around the world and was even the focus of her own opera in 1963.
