Synopsis

A romantic comedy about the struggles of budding playwright Jake Briggs (Eric Stoltz). It starts with Jake at college, rehearsing his first play where he meets Joanne (Mary Louise Parker) and the two quickly fall in love. Their first few years together are great, but things start to go awry when Jake moves to New York for the production of his first off-Broadway play and Joanne starts working for a smooth-talking wealthy art collector (Timothy Dalton). Tony Curtis puts in an appearance as a ruthless theatre producer while Kathleen Turner features as the bossy star of Jake's play - both of whom give the amiable Jake almighty headaches.
