Synopsis

Tom Hiddleston performs the title role in this live production of Shakespeare's tragedy at the Donmar Warehouse in Covent Garden, London. Despite believing him to be responsible for the grain famine, the people of Rome rely on Caius Martius, soon to be given the agnomen Coriolanus, to protect them when their city comes under the threat of old foe Tullus Aufidius (Hadley Fraser) and his army. When he returns from battle Coriolanus is convinced by his mother to run for consul but he has enemies in the city too and they encourage the citizens to violently oppose his campaign. Coriolanus retaliates but is exiled from Rome and he heads to Volsci where he forms an alliance with Aufidius, an act which will ultimately lead to tragedy.
