Synopsis

Boris Barnet directs this early Soviet Union sound film set during the First World War. In a small village situated on the border between Russia and Germany, a German prisoner of war, Mueller (Gans Klering), has been granted permission to work as a cobbler. As a romance blossoms between him and native girl Marika (Yelena Kuzmina) they are looked upon with suspicion. Elsewhere, while soldiers face the treacherous conditions on the front and those returning home find it impossible to get back to a regular way of life, signs of the approaching Russian Revolution begin to show.
