Pharaoh Film Poster

It took director Jerzy Kawalerowicz three years to film this epic tale of the Egyptian empire, based on the novel by Boleslaw Prus. In the XXth dynasty, hot-headed prince Rameses attempts to wage war on the expanding empire of Assyria in order to preserve Egypt's dominions, but he encounters opposition from the high priest Herbor, who has secretly signed a peace treaty with the Assyrians. When Ramses eventually accedes to the throne his conflict with Herbor escalates, placing the future of the entire empire in jeopardy.
