A triple bill of science fiction. 'Red Planet' is set in the year 2050 and impending ecological disaster on Earth renders the colonisation of other planets essential. Commander Kate Bowman (Carrie-Ann Moss) heads a team of astronauts on an exploratory mission to Mars, but the damage resulting from a solar flare causes the expedition's ship to crash land and its robot to malfunction. Trapped on Mars without communication equipment and hunted by the rampant robot, the team at first appear doomed but soon make a number of startling discoveries about the planet and its inhabitants. 'Battlefield Earth' is set in the year 3000 and there are no longer any countries or cities on Earth. The planet is now a wasteland and man has been taken over by the Psychlos, an alien race bent on global domination. The Pyschlos, led by Terl (John Travolta) have taken all of mankind's natural resources leaving humanity to rot. But one man, Tyler, has decided to make a stand against these aliens and show them that mankind is not dead yet. Finally, in 'Soldier' a galactic mercenary (Kurt Russell), trained to be a fighting machine, has been made obsolete by a new breed of genetically engineered warriors. Whilst working on a low-grade assignment on a distant planet, he is forced to turn protector of the colony's inhabitants, who are being subjected to a brutal attack by the gene-enhanced fighters.
