Requiem for Billy the Kid Film Poster

Synopsis

Documentary film about the 19th-century American frontier outlaw and gunman investigating his escape from jail and the events leading up to his death. The film follows Lincoln County's modern-day Sheriff as he examines the evidence and tries to establish whether Pat Garret killed Billy the Kid or if the rumours of his escape to Mexico are true. Kris Kristofferson (who played Billy in Sam Peckinpah's 1973 western 'Pat Garret and Billy the Kid') plays the voice of the outlaw as if back from the dead to give his own retelling of the circumstances surrounding the event. The documentary also features intriguing interviews plus footage from the classic film versions of the tale including Arthur Penn's 'The Left Handed Gun' (1958) starring Paul Newman.
