Synopsis

A sumptuous production of the ultimate Christmas ballet to mark choreographer Peter Wright's 90th birthday. Of all the many productions of this quintessential festive family favourite, none is more loved than the great British choreographer Peter Wright's colourful version, which was first staged at Covent Garden back in 1984. Now Wright's most popular and successful creation returns to celebrate his 90th birthday. This magical ballet danced to Tchaikovsky's magnificent score unfolds in two fabulous acts. In Act One, Drosselmeyer the magician gives young Clara a nutcracker doll on Christmas Eve. Her sitting room is then transformed into a battlefield where an army of toy soldiers take on the evil Mouse King. Act two is set in the Land of the Sweets, where the Sugar Plum Fairy and her Prince dance an exquisite pas de deux. Thanks to its gorgeous stage designs, captivating dancing and superb music, The Nutcracker continues to enchant audiences of all ages.
