Saipan - Island Of Doom Film Poster

The island of Saipan, part of the Mariana Archipelago, became a hugely important island during the War in the Pacific in 1944. As the Americans forced the pace of the war, they intended to take control of the island and use it as a base to launch bombing raids on Japan. Using napalm and phosphorous weapons they forced their way onto the island, and were stunned that within a month of their arrival over 1,000 men women and children had committed suicide in the face of occupation.
