Shakespeare's tragedy 'Macbeth' is not only transposed to an early 1970s USA setting, but turned into a comedy spoof by writer-director Billy Morrissette. James Le Gros stars as Mac McBeth, a none-too-clever burger joint attendant who becomes embroiled in a plot to kill his boss, Norm (James Rebhorn), after his much-brainier wife Pat (Maura Tierney) decides life would be better and more lucrative with Norm out of the way. Mac goes ahead with the murderous plan, despite the warnings of three hippies (an update on Shakespeare's witches) that bad luck is waiting in the wings. However, contrary to the hippies' prophecies, Mac and Pat seem to have got away 'scot'-free - until vegetarian police detective Lieutenant McDuff (Christopher Walken) arrives on the scene, that is... The film premiered at the 2001 Sundance Film Festival.
