Double bill of offbeat comedies. 'Sideways' (2004) follows Miles (Paul Giamatti), an unsuccessful novelist, and Jack (Thomas Haden Church), an equally unsuccessful actor who is about to get married. They decide to take a trip to California in an attempt to sow their wild oats. There they explore the nature of their failures and question their relationships. Jack has an affair and wonders whether he should call off the marriage. Meanwhile Miles, recently divorced himself, questions whether or not he made the right decision. In 'I Heart Huckabees' (2004), Bernard and Vivian Jaffe (Dustin Hoffman and Lily Tomlin) are a married couple who run an existential detective agency. Their latest client is Albert Markovski (Jason Schwartzman), an angst-ridden environmental activist. The Jaffes' study of Albert's problems lead them to Brad Stand (Jude Law), a public relations executive who works for a chain of variety stores, Huckabees, and who publicly supports Markovski's environmental stance while privately brokering shady land deals. When Brad hires the Jaffes himself, these interconnected relationships all begin to break down.
