Synopsis

Bittersweet family drama starring Esther Gorintin as matriarchal grandmother Eka, who lives with her daughter Marina (Nino Khomasuridze) and granddaughter Ada (Dinara Drukarova) in a tiny flat in Tbilisi, a drab and debilitated city in the former Soviet Union. Eka lives for news from her beloved son, Otar, who has left Tbilisi for a new life in Paris and regularly sends letters and money home. When the two younger women discover that Otar has been killed in a construction accident, they decide to keep it the news a secret from Eka, and spare her the shock and pain that such tidings would bring. The plan goes smoothly - until Eka announces that she has raised the money to fulfil her long-held dream: to go and visit her precious son in Paris.
