Sci-fi triple bill. In 'Stargate' (1994), hard-bitten Colonel 'Jack' O'Neil (Kurt Russell) and Egyptologist Dr Daniel Jackson (James Spader) are sent on a mission to investigate the theory that the pyramids were built by shape-changing aliens as a means of communication and pan-galactic travel. The pair arrive on a distant desert planet, where they whip up the planet's natives into a rebellion against their dictator, Ra (Jaye Davidson). 'Deep Star 6' (1989) is set in the near future. A secret US naval base is researching underwater colonisation - but while exploring the ocean bed, the crew of Deep Star 6 find themselves under attack from a mysterious creature. 'Flash Gordon' (1980), directed by Mike Hodges and featuring a score by rock band Queen, is an updated version of the 1930s serials. American football hero Flash (Sam Jones) is dragged from Earth to the outer reaches of the Universe where he must battle the evil dictatorship of Ming the Merciless (Max von Sydow). He is helped by technical wizard Dr Hans Zarkov (Topol), the winged Prince Vultan (Brian Blessed) and the brooding Prince Barin (a pre-Bond Timothy Dalton).
