Robert Enders directs this biopic starring Glenda Jackson as the acclaimed British poet Stevie Smith. Smith, who was a close friend of George Orwell, spent much of her adult life in the company of her aunt (Mona Washbourne). The pair shared a house in Palmers Green, London, where, despite her aunt's bafflement at Stevie's creativity and eccentricity, the two women converse at length and share the highs and lows of life. Interspersed with scenes of the pair's everyday life are flashbacks in which Stevie reflects on her past and the events that have shaped her writing. Alec McCowen and Trevor Howard also star.
