Synopsis

Live broadcast from The British Museum in London. Offering viewers a tour of the 'Life and Death in Pompeii and Herculaneum' exhibition, the programme offers an insight into the daily lives and eventual demise of the people living in the area surrounding Mount Vesuvius nearly 2000 years ago. In an unexpected volcanic eruption these two ancient cities were destroyed and buried in 79 AD. Included in the exhibition are objects and artefacts which have been preserved in high-temperature volcanic ash as well as casts of people also caught in the destruction.
