1970s biopic from film-maker Werner Herzog about the life of German Kaspar Hauser, portrayed by Bruno S.. In Nuremberg in the early 1800s, the teenaged Kaspar arrives in the town square, his origins shrouded in mystery. At first he is unable to talk but when he learns how to he claims that he has been kept captive in a cellar since childhood with no contact with other human beings. Despite his patron Professor Daumer (Walter Ladengast)'s efforts, Kaspar has trouble fitting in with society. Following a violent incident he leaves the world as mysteriously as he came into it.
