Double-bill of comedy dramas with a feminist theme. In 'The First Wives Club' (1996) Annie (Diane Keaton), Brenda (Bette Midler), Cynthia (Stockard Channing) and Elise (Goldie Hawn) graduate from college in 1969 and vow that they will never lose touch. Nearly three decades later, Cynthia commits suicide after her husband abandons her. Meeting at her funeral, the three remaining friends each confess that their respective spouses have been unfaithful, and set out to wreak revenge. In 'Shirley Valentine' (1989), bored housewife Shirley Valentine (Pauline Collins) jumps at the chance to do something different when her friend wins a holiday to a Greek island and invites her along. Dissatisfied with her life and her husband, she finds herself awakening when she meets and sleeps with lusty Greek restaurant owner Costas (Tom Conti).
