Big budget Chinese historical epic examining the climax of the Chinese Civil War in the 1950s. The film opens with the leaders of the two main factions in the civil war, Mao Zedong (Tang Guoqiang) of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and Chiang Kai-shek (Zhang Guoli) of the nationalist party Kuomintang (KMT), agreeing to call a truce. Kai-shek is elected president of a multi-party government, however the peace is short lived. Soon the two sides find themselves at war with each other in a battle for the future of China that affects every citizen of the nation. Each person must choose a side and be ready to fight in defence of their beliefs.
