On the brink of bankruptcy, the English football team Queens Park Rangers were saved by an unlikely group of billionaire backers, who vowed to elevate the struggling outfit to the coveted Premier League within four years. Luckily for us, they allowed director Mat Hodgson to come along for the turbulent ride. Mat and his camera sit in on every meeting, locker-room scream fest, tantrum-throwing and manager firing – of which there are many. Whether or not you are a football fan, this doc shines a light on the intersection of business, sport and power. Undeterred by their lack of knowledge of the beautiful game, the owners prove themselves to be spectacularly foul of mouth and firm of boot. Yet in the end, this riveting film shows that, though money can buy you a lot of things, it can’t buy you good judgement – or protection from being heckled by scores of dissatisfied fans.
