Synopsis

A biopic of the legenday impresario Florenz Ziegfeld (William Powell), which is nearly 3 hours long, contains spectacular production numbers and won 3 Academy Awards - including Best Picture. Ziegfeld Jr. began his showbusiness career by persuading (and later marrying) European stage star Anne Held to front his 'Follies' which went on to become a massive hit on Broadway. From 1907 onwards his name became synonymous with a spectacular annual musical review on Broadway and he also found time to develop the careers of other stars such as Fanny Brice (who plays herself) and Eddie Cantor. Badly hit by the Depression, Ziegfeld died before he could stage his comeback show.
