Jackson swiftly rises to the top level of the sport and believes he can raise enough money on the track to get his father out of jail. However, the big league is fraught with travails and temptations, from track groupie Marge (Valerie Perrine), who flirts with Junior while maintaining a relationship with his fiercest rival, Kyle Kingman (William Smith), to the sleazy corporate moneyman, Burton Colt (Ed Lauter).
