Feature drama based on real events. After an early life of grinding poverty, prostitution and hard drinking, Lena Baker (Tichina Arnold) is getting things back on track, looking after her three children and going to church regularly. When she starts working for Elliot Arthur, however, she becomes the victim of his physical and psychological abuse. When she finally takes a stand against her employer's tyranny, a tussle for a gun ensues and Arthur is left dead. Lena is found guilty of murder by an all white male jury and becomes the first and only woman to be sentenced to death by electrocution in the state of Georgia.
