Burgess Meredith directs and stars in this adaptation of Georges Simenon's mystery novel. In postwar Paris, Bill Kirby (Robert Hutton) is overheard wishing his aunt dead by an enigmatic yet dangerous medical student named Radek (Franchot Tone). With a large inheritance at stake, Radek carries out the murder, but when he is stumbled upon by a blind man events are triggered that alert the great inspector Jules Maigret (Charles Laughton) and lead to a thrilling climax on the Eiffel Tower itself.
