Synopsis

Double bill of 'The Mummy' and its spinoff prequel, 'The Scorpion King'. 'The Mummy' is a swashbuckling Egyptian adventure in which Brendan Fraser plays Rick O'Connell, an American who discovers Hamunaptra, the city of the dead. He is driven away by locals and arrested. Three years later, Englishman Jonathan (John Hannah) discovers an ancient artefact which he gives to his sister Evelyn (Rachel Weisz). In turn, she trades the artefact for Rick's release from prison and the trio set off for Hamunaptra, hoping to arrive there before Beni (Kevin J. O'Connor), Rick's crooked former associate. However Beni has already invoked a curse which frees Imhotep, a supernaturally-gifted mummy. He pursues the adventurers across the land, feeding upon the flesh of unfortunate explorers, with the aim of sacrificing Evelyn in order to resurrect another evil mummy. 'The Scorpion King' is an action adventure set in ancient times that sets the historical background for 'The Mummy'. The warrior Mathayus (played by wrestling pro The Rock) is sent on a mission to assassinate Cassandra (Kelly Hu), the powerful sorceress advisor to King Memnon (Steven Brand). Mathayus is captured and left to die in the desert. Managing to survive, the brave warrior returns and kidnaps the sorceress, but as he makes his escape, he is struck by an arrow dipped in scorpion poison.
